Ronald Stassen

My name is Ronald Stassen and I’m living in Maastricht, The Netherlands were I was born and raised. Maastricht is situated close to the Belgium and German border, it’s close to three US war Cemeteries and Memorials. As a kid I was taken to these Cemeteries and told about those that fought for our freedom and are buried here. I wanted to know more about these men and this war and slowly started to read books and watch movies. I went into the army and served with an Engineers unit.

Its wasn’t until 2002 when i picked up my interest for the WWII subject again and learned about the airborne troops, details about Operation Market Garden and Bastogne later on. In 2008 I started my own guiding company called Relive History 44-45 and focused on Market Garden, Bastogne and Maastricht.  Bastogne is my main focus and guiding area. The interest in these subjects developed a passion for all the units involved but especially the units of the 101st Airborne and others were longtime friends fought in for our freedom. I toured with WWII Veterans, their families and other enthusiasts. I toured with History buffs, Historians, and history teachers from around the globe.  I helped many families to get in their relatives footsteps life or on paper. I toured with active soldiers British and American, even 240 on one day after some logistical planning. I met many veterans who told me their story or parts of it. I have adopted six graves and correspond with their families. I am a board member of the Foundation Christmas Mass American Soldiers and adopted graves of those whose life’s were taken in the heath for the battle of our freedom.
