The National Holocaust Centre and Museum has two permanent exhibitions and hosts many events every year. It is the only national museum in the UK dedicated to teaching about and learning the lessons from the Holocaust.

The two permanent exhibitions are The Journey Exhibition and The Holocaust Exhibition

The Journey Exhibition is designed for visitors aged 9 years and older, and is the first exhibition staged in the UK solely for the purpose of teaching primary school age children (up to 11) about the holocaust. The journey tells the story of Leo, a fictional German-Jewish boy living in Berlin during Nazi rule. His story unfolds in a series of rooms, which not only detail Leo’s experience but also the historical events that impacted the lives of children who lived during the Holocaust and survived. Their stories are at the heart of the permanent exhibition.

The Holocaust Exhibition is designed for visitors aged 12 years and older. It aims to tell the stories of people and how their lives are affected by history. The exhibition reminds visitors that knowing what happened in the Holocaust is the first necessary step to understanding it.

A memorial garden, set in a beautiful landscape, provides an important counterpoint to the museum. The garden offers a space for reflection and a place for individuals with personal links to the Holocaust to remember their families.

The museum also holds a collection of artefacts relating to the Holocaust. Some items of the collection, which range from photographs and art to film and oral testimonies, can be seen in the displays.

The centre and museum can accommodate educational bookings from primary schools to universities. Throughout the year, there are many opportunities to attend lectures given by Holocaust survivors who talk about their personal experiences.
