​​RAF Dunholme Lodge​

​​The airfield was made up of three concrete runways, parts of which still exist today. The infrastructure was located to the east of the perimeter track towards the village. A few parts of this still exist today, but a private farm was built on the former technical site.

​Under No. 5 Group, the airfield was operational from May 1943. No. 44 Squadron was the first to arrive on 31 May 1943. They flew their Lancaster plane from here before moving to RAF Spilsby in September 1944. In April 1944, No. 617 Squadron joined them here at Dunholme Lodge until September 1944.

​In September 1944, the airfield was transferred to No. 1 Group and in October No. 171 Squadron arrived at the airfield. They remained here until November 1944. The airfield was then closed to operational flying but used for glider training, in particular with Hamilcar gliders.

​One of the runways can still be walked along Horncastle Lane. There is a memorial in the private grounds of Dunholme Lodge. This can be visited by prior appointment with the landowners, but other sites are not accessible to the public.
